IMPSA to supply the first large wind generators for Paraíba (09/30/2009)     Print

The generators are to be installed at the Alhandra Wind Farm controlled by Cedin do Brazil.

On September 30, IMPSA Wind –Latin America’s leader in renewable energies– and Cedin do Brazil signed a contract for the supply of the first phase of the Alhandra Wind Farm project in Curitiba (PR) as part of a total solution package. The equipment will be supplied by IMPSA´s plant in Cabo de Santo Agostinho (Pernambuco), some 150 km from the project site. The amount of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract, including a five-year operation and maintenance period, is over R$ 31 million.

During the first stage, the wind farm will be equipped with four 1.5 MW IV 77 – Class IIA wind generators. The Alhandra Wind Farm is scheduled to start operations in July 2010. In the second stage, ten 2.1 MW wind generators will be installed totaling 27 MW. The wind farm, financed by the BNB over a 20-year period, will increase wind energy generation in the state by more than 50 percent as soon as both project stages are completed. With this contract, IMPSA once again asserts its position as provider of integrated solutions for the wind energy market with a projected total of 220 wind generators in the Brazilian market. IMPSA´s wind generators are the most advanced because of their state-of-the-art technology.

“The State of Paraíba has been seeking to attract investors, especially in the field of clean energy. Because of this, it has adopted an aggressive tax incentive policy to attract new industries to the region”, explains Claudinê Sfaier, director of Cedin do Brasil.

Luis Pescarmona, IMPSA´s president in Brazil, points out that Brazil has made progress in the regulation of the energy sector with moderate state involvement in the economy and in the offer of financing possibilities. “Right now, Brazil is our most dynamic market”, Mr. Pescarmona states with enthusiasm. In his opinion the country sets an example to the region. “Brazil is an example to be followed because it found its way long ago”, he stated during the inauguration of the Praias de Parajurú Wind Farm on August 20, the first of a series of three wind power generation projects to be installed in the state of Ceará. “With this sale, IMPSA is well positioned to participate in the Wind Energy Auction Sale scheduled for November 25”, he added.
