IMPSA Wind discharges its first sixty blades at Suape (06/24/2008)     Print

On June 24th, 2008, IMPSA Wind reached a milestone with the arrival to Suape, coming from Canada, of the vessel M/V “Snoekgracht”, loaded with the first sixty 37.3 meters windmill blades for the generator IMPSA –V 1.5 MW. This quantity is enough to set up twenty windmills that will be erected at the wind famrs of Parajurú and “Praia do Morgado” in the Brazilian State of Ceará. With this, IMPSA Wind takes a step is its history within the industrial environment of Recife and Pernambuco.

The vessel arrived to Suape and immediately afterwards the local authorities (Customs, Port Authority, Federal Police, Secretary of Agriculture) started their work in order to clear the vessel to start operations as soon as possible.

The discharge operation was a challenge of a new complexity, given the size of the blades and the relatively tight space available on pier Nº 4.

Working with two on-board cranes throughout all the operation, the blades were loaded upon the trucks, and then transported to Suata’s backyard, 800 meters away from the pier, where two other cranes were waiting to unload and stack them.

Eventually, on June 26th the last blade in the hatch of the vessel got out of it and entered Suata’s backyard, thus crowning with success the very first blade discharge operation that IMPSA performed at Suape. The next vessel with blades will be coming from the United States, and is expected to arrive on early September.
